Ethan’s grandma and grandpa treated him to a kid’s digital camera so he could take pictures on vacation.  So here is our Ocean City trip documented by the young photographer.

We’ve received several requests to post a picture of the completed house.  Here it is!

Of Bass and Butterflies

Just a few random postings to keep everyone up to date…

Ethan continues to get better at fishing.  The last time out he caught the biggest bass of the day!

The butterfly eggs hatched but the caterpillars are no where to be found. But I will keep looking for a few more days.

The house is almost finished being painted. Just a few more touch ups and then they will be done and move on to the garage. The garage needed a lot of caulking which needs to cure before they can paint.

The summer has winded down. The neighborhood kids go back to school on Thursday. Ethan had a great summer!

A few months ago, one of Ethan’s friends spotted some milkweed growing in our garden. We looked for monarch butterflies but at the time didn’t see anything. Well today I was out in the yard and I noticed a monarch butterfly near the milkweed. It was laying eggs! She laid one egg on each leaf of the milkweed plant.

We’ll keep an eye on the eggs. Hopefully some of them hatch so we can watch the caterpillars grow and turn into cocoons. I’ll try to document all the stages, stay tuned!

Here is a picture of Soufflenheim, France where the Zetwick family originated from, and many still live. Someday, I’d love to visit this German speaking region of France (that was taken by the Germans in WWI and again in WWII).

Joe’s Busy Day

First, I installed a new kitchen light.

Then, I worked on trim in the living room. After that I hung up the mask we got on our honeymoon.

Next, I put up our old antique clock.

Then, the cool slate sign Kathy and Jim gave us last year. It looks great against the new paint job!

I’m bushed!

A few nights ago, I took out my telescope.  All the kids were out and I knew they would have fun looking at the moon.  They all lined up carefully and took turns.  Our neighbors across the street came over too.  It was a little too light out to see any planets, but with autumn approaching, that should change soon.

Here is a picture of great-grandfather Michaelis and his two brothers, Anton and Augustus.  This was given to me by our 3rd cousin, Robert Zetwick.

This Old House

Here is our house circa 1940.  Notice the porch has already been converted to an indoor area.  I believe we still have the original door and most of the cedar siding.

Special thanks to our neighbors who gave this picture to us today.  She used to live directly across the street from us when she was growing up (she lives further down the street now).  The truck in the photo belonged to her father.
